In April 2026, I participated in the Legal Innovation Challenge 8 (LIC8) in Stuttgart, organized by the Legal AI Network. My team, “Menold Bezler 1,” took 2nd place (🥈) out of a competitive field of innovators at the intersection of IT and Law.
We developed MB Client, a digital onboarding portal designed for the law firm Menold Bezler to revolutionize how they start client collaborations.
The Problem: Email Chaos
The initial phase of a legal mandate is often plagued by “email chaos.” Lawyers and clients exchange dozens of messages to:
- Collect basic company information.
- Track missing KYC (Know Your Customer) documents.
- Coordinate kick-off meetings.
- Share sensitive files across insecure or disorganized channels.
This manual process is slow, prone to error, and creates a poor first impression for the client.
The Solution: MB Client
MB Client is a centralized, transparent onboarding platform that streamlines the entire process into a single digital flow.
Key Features
- Smart Import: Automated data import from existing business registers to minimize manual entry for the client.
- Real-Time Status Tracking: A clear dashboard showing exactly which documents are still missing and which steps are complete.
- Automated Kick-off Scheduling: Integration with calendars to book the initial consultation as soon as the prerequisite data is provided.
- Centralized Upload System: A secure, encrypted portal for all document transfers, eliminating the need for fragmented email threads.
The Challenge: LIC8
LIC8 was a two-day intensive event focused on Legal Design Thinking and rapid prototyping. It brought together lawyers, developers, and designers to solve real-world problems in the legal industry.
Our project was praised for its practical applicability and focus on user experience (UX) for both the lawyer and the client.
